Pastel Adventures Information:
This on-line demonstration and tutorial gives you two hours of soft pastel interaction. With a small group we can get into our watery subject with bold and creative fun mark making.

This class is for the brave and the curious pastellist.....is that you?

 The class is fully explained and demonstrated with time for you to paint along or just watch, take notes and ask questions.

Over four days there are workshops, demonstrations, critiques,  en plein-air sessions, the Trade Show(only open to registered Expo attendees) and a ticketed demonstration by esteemed Artist and Judge, Liz Haywood Sullivan.

​This pastel painting show of work by Karol Oakley and Joanne Tollefson is on for the Month of March. For Karol it is part of her fundraising quest for Hahndorf Artist in Residence programme. 

Karol is at the gallery on Friday 9th March from 10:30 am doing a demonstration painting in pastel, seats are limited and booking is required, a small fee applies.

Afterwards at 1 pm Karol is holding a free critique session for local artists. Bring a painting in, put your name in the hat, then as one critique finishes another name will be drawn for the next critique. 

Monday March 19th is the Artist Talk by Joanne Tollefson starting at 10am. This event is open to everyone to come and hear the stories behind selected paintings, methods used to create the work and discussion about other arty things.

We look forward to meeting you at the gallery.

BI ANNUAL CONVENTION AND 30TH JURIED PASTEL WORLD EXHIBITION

ank you to all the The IAPS convention is on in Albuquerque USA in April 2017. Pastellists from around the world will gather for a week of convention attention!  Every day there are workshops, demonstrations, professional development, networking, a get together and dinners, a trade show to blow the budget and the 30th Juried Pastel World Exhibition.
My painting "Rhythm of Life", shown above, has been juried in to this prestigious Awards and Exhibition. Am I excited? You bet!!!  I am going over to attend the convention as part of my international partnerships project. So many pastellist to meet and exchange ideas with, a huge social event! Thank you to all the artists, friends and family who supported my  GoFundMe campaign.

LOS GATOS PLEIN AIR 2017  California USA

Los Gatos Plein Air is a juried exhibition with approximately 35 artists selected to participate in the 2016 event. I am so honoured to be one of the artists this year. The event is a fundraiser sponsored by the Los Gatos Morning Rotary Club. Any of my paintings done during the week will be part of this good cause. 
Some may see it as a holiday for artists.........I see it also as building international partnerships and opportunities.

Below are some of my paintings done in the four days around the area. Such a well organised event in a beautiful location. Thank you everyone involved artists, committees, locals, hosts and more. You made it a wonderful week and raised money for important Rotary works .

Comment:   Summer Landscape was awarded first prize in the Landscape/Enviroment Section and was selected as the Champion of Show.
This is the innaugural "Great Summer Art Show" and it is an honour to win these awards.
The judges comments were to the effect of " a small iconic scene tht no matter where in the room you are you keep seeking it out.  It will stand the test of time and be a painting that will always be well regarded" 
This painting is a studio piece painted from a plein air painting done in January at Bell on the western side of the Bunya Mountains.

The Inaugural Master Pastellists of Australia Exhibition - 30 Sept to 25 Oct 2015

  • Art exhibition history will be made in the Old Fire Station Gallery in Redcliffe this September-October.
With Australia-wide membership, and overseas, the Pastel Society of Australia boasts the highest standard of contemporary art making with this medium.  Master pastellist status is awarded to those members who consistently display an excellent use and control of pastel, and who offer themselves generous to the promotion and understanding of the medium.

For the first time in its history, these Master Pastellists of the Pastel Society of Australia are exhibiting together.


The exhibitors include internationally recognized artists and members in demand as teachers works wide.  Master Pastellists will be demonstrating their art free to the public every day of the month over the exhibition.

Sunshine Coast Plein-air Paintout at Yandina August 15 to 24 2015.
Through out this week a group of invited artists will be painting at a variety of venues from the Coast to the Hinterland focusing on Yandina historic sights to coincide with their Street Fair on Sunday 24th August.

The weeks paintings will become an exhibition with mostly unframed works for sale in oils, pastels and watercolours.
Exhibition Venue:  The Tin Shed, 26 Railway Street Yandina. Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd August 10am to 4pm

90 Paintings to Monterey - a living painting project.
This project by artist Karol Oakley was a fundrasier to enable karol to attend the Plein-air Convention and Expo in Monterey California 2015.

As often as possible Karol can be found in the great outdoors or painting from life in the studio creating small works of a 9x5 inch size. 

These small works are in honour of the Heidleberg School of painters active in Melbourne in the late 1800's, our very own Australian Impressionists. 

Each painting retails for $165 unframed and is mailed to you ready to select the framing of your choice.
