PAINT - HAHNDORF - HEYSEN
In April/May 2018 I am privileged to be painting and teaching in Hahndorf and environs as Artist in Residence(AiR) at the Hahndorf Academy, while experiencing Autumn in a cold climate along with the extraordinary colours and light. Hahndorf is the hometown of legendary artist and Australian Master painter, artist Sir Hans Heysen, 1877 - 1968.
As AiR my aim is to paint both "en plein-air" and studio work, building my exhibition as I go. Paintings are to be hung as they are created giving an immediacy to the work while providing fresh interest to viewers and collectors alike over the six weeks in residence. There will be an opening and a closing event along with demonstrations as fundraisers for local art venues also surprising special events.
Visitors are invited to come into the Hahndorf Academy, first floor, and see the Exhibition, buy if you will, but experience the excitement of the daily additions hot of the easel. If its "sad" weather I will be in the studio painting and your welcome to come and say hello. I am painting in pastel, oil and pen and wash.
This is a sought after opportunity by me, long in the planning, to walk, paint and breathe a small part of Australian Master Painter Hans Heysen's home town; to visit and paint in places he painted and made famous a hundred years ago while listening to stories of the people who live and work in Hahndorf now, in a town built two millennia ago.
There is to be a series of workshops covering a range of topics for artists in oils and pastels, mixed media, pen and wash. The style of work is traditional that is to say it represents the subject.
A fun event on during my residency is the "Artists That Coffee", we meet for coffee and treats chat and doodling on set Fridays at a different Cafe in Hahndorf. This is on the Workshop list as well.
